twitter fundingNews broke yesterday about a huge new round of financing for Twitter. Word has it Twitter has received around $100 million in new venture capital from multiple investors. Although the number is unofficial, valuations of Twitter went wild and quickly rose to $1 billion.
Now, Twitter has officially confirmed they’ve received financing; without disclosing the actual amount, they claim it’s “significant”. If the $100 million figure is correct, “significant” is quite an understatement, but we’ll forgive them for being modest. Here’s what the folks at Twitter (Twitter) have posted on the official blog:
“There’s a lot of talk today about our financing. A few hours ago we closed a significant round of funding with a group of investment firms that we’re excited to publicly thank: Insight Venture Partners, T. Rowe Price, Institutional Venture Partners, Spark Capital and Benchmark Capital.
It was important to us that we find investment partners who share our vision for building a company of enduring value. Twitter’s journey has just begun and we are committed to building the best product, technology, and company possible. I’m proud of the team we’ve built so far and I’m confident in the future we’ll build together.”
So there you have it. Twitter has put on a poker face, looking at that 1 billion dollar valuation right in the eyes. Something tells me they’re already looking way, way past it.
